Bijzondere auto's, daar zijn we altijd wel naar op zoek. En heel af en toe schiet je enorm raak. Dit is er zo eentje.

Met gepaste trots aangeboden, een SAAB 900 Classic 2.1i-16 Coupe. Van de 2e eigenaar overgenomen, helemaal roestvrij en keurig in de originele lak. Goed in de opties, zoals een schuifdak en airconditioning. Maar het geen wat hem echt bijzonder maakt, dat is de historie. Want alles zit er bij. Echt alles. Elke druppel benzine die deze auto tot 2013 heeft verbruikt staat genoteerd en is bijgehouden in een tankboekje. De aankoopbon, de offerte's voor het later inbouwen van de Airco, de Saab folder die thuis gestuurd werd voor de promotie van het later inbouwen van de airco bij Saab zelf.

De SAAB 900 classic heeft geen introductie meer nodig, maar we praten er graag over. Toch een kleine toelichting dus. Een Zweeds geproduceerd voertuig met een eigenaardige technische vormgeving. Alles aan de 900 klopt, maar echt te vergelijken met de rest van de auto industrie was het niet. Enorm zware kluisdeuren die met een mooie 'klonk' sluiten. De combinatie van motor en bak: Gekanteld, achterstevoren was behoorlijk progressief voor zijn tijd. Het rijdt dan ook bijzonder. Heerlijke reisauto's die heerlijk op de weg liggen, strak en comfortabel geveerd.

Een van onze persoonlijke auto's is een Saab 900 2.1, die heeft de afgelopen tien jaar elke uithoek van Europa gezien. Inmiddels ruim 350.000 op de teller, maar onverstoorbaar als altijd. Dat is ruim 3x zo veel als het hier aangeboden exemplaar.

In 1991 aangeschaft door Egidius Meeus bij Gilcon Leuven. Aldaar ook al het onderhoud werd uitgevoerd. Eind 2013 overleed Egidius, zijn laatst genoteerde tankbeurt was op 16/11/2013. Volgetankt, zoals altijd. 42,48 Liter tegen een literprijs van €1,665 komt op een totaal van €70,73. Een punctuele man, moge dat duidelijk zijn.

Na zijn overlijden is de 2.1 bij een verzamelaar terecht gekomen die hem in goede rijdende conditie heeft gehouden, elk jaar een ritje, en keuring. Origineel was de auto bedoeld voor zijn vrouw, maar zoals dat wel vaker gebeurd hadden ze blijkbaar al genoeg SAABs. Zo kreeg de wagen elk jaar keuring en netjes onderhoud. Totale kilometrage gereden door de tweede eigenaar is dan ook een luttele 1500 kilometer.

Wij hebben vervolgens de auto overgenomen en wat extra liefde gegeven. Een grote onderhoudsbeurt, rubbers waar nodig (stuurkogel/fusee etc), de voorbumper gewisseld voor een mooier exemplaar en frisse bandjes. Alles uiteraard inzichtelijk, zoals Egidius het gewild had.

De Saab is cosmetisch echt super netjes, het interieur is zo goed als nieuw. Geen scheuren in het dashboard. Geen hangend hemeltje (meer). Op de bumpers zitten wat schaafjes, maar voor de leeftijd erg netjes. De rest van de lak is vrijwel deukvrij en in goede staat. Op het linker voorscherm zitten wat schaafjes die zijn bijgetipt. Omwille van de originaliteit hebben wij hier niet aan laten spuiten. Qua roest is deze auto ook een topper. Ik word iedere keer weer wild als ik de kofferbakruimte bekijk. Voor de kenners, daar wil het nog weleens roesten. En dat is een understatement. Maar bij deze auto is er echt geen spatje roest te bekennen, alles nog precies zoals het de fabriek verliet 33 jaar geleden.

Klein detail, voor de liefhebbers. De APK vervaldatum is na 33 jaar nog steeds de leveringsdatum, nog een kleinigheidje dat deze auto zo mooi definieert. Echt een auto die gekoesterd is. Grijp je kans, zo vind je ze niet meer!

Auto wordt geleverd met een NL kenteken, APK wordt overgenomen van de belgen. Loopt dus nog tot 9 april 2025.

Proudly offered, a SAAB 900 Classic 2.1i-16 Coupe. Taken over from the 2nd owner, completely rust-free and neatly in the original paint. Good in the options, such as a sliding roof and air conditioning. But what really makes it special is its history. Because everything is included. Really everything. Every drop of petrol that this car used up to 2013 is recorded and kept in a fuel book. The purchase receipt, the quotations for the later installation of the air conditioning, the Saab brochure that was sent home to promote the later installation of the air conditioning at Saab itself.

The SAAB 900 classic needs no introduction, but we like to talk about it. So a small explanation. A Swedish produced vehicle with a peculiar technical design. Everything about the 900 is correct, but it was not really comparable to the rest of the car industry. Very heavy safe doors that close with a nice 'clunk'. The combination of engine and gearbox: Tilted, backwards was quite progressive for its time. It drives exceptionally well. Wonderful travel cars that handle wonderfully on the road, with sleek and comfortable suspension.
One of our personal cars is a Saab 900 2.1, which has seen every corner of Europe over the past ten years. Now more than 350,000 on the dial, but as undisturbed as ever. That is more than 3x as much as the copy offered here.

Purchased in 1991 by Egidius Meeus at Gilcon Leuven. There also all maintenance was performed. Egidius died at the end of 2013, his last recorded refueling was on 16/11/2013. Filled up, as always. 42.48 Liters at a liter price of €1.665 comes to a total of €70.73. A punctual man, may that be clear.
After his death, the 2.1 ended up with a collector who has kept it in good driving condition, a ride every year, and inspection. Originally, the car was intended for his wife, but as often happens, they apparently already had enough SAABs. Thus, the car received inspections and neat maintenance every year. Total mileage driven by the second owner is a mere 1500 kilometers.

We then took over the car and gave it some extra love. A major service, rubbers where needed (steering ball/fusee etc), the front bumper changed for a nicer one and fresh tires. All insightful, of course, as Egidius would have wanted.

The Saab is really super clean cosmetically, the interior is as good as new. No cracks in the dashboard. No hanging headliner (anymore). There are some scuffs on the bumpers, but for its age very clean. The rest of the paint is virtually dent free and in good condition. On the left front screen there are some scuffs that have been touched up. For the sake of originality, we have not had this painted. In terms of rust, this car is also a winner. I get wild every time I look at the trunk space. For those in the know, it still tends to rust there. And that is an understatement. But on this car there is really not a speck of rust to be seen, everything is still exactly as it left the factory 33 years ago.

Small detail, for enthusiasts. The MOT expiration date is still the delivery date after 33 years, another little detail that defines this car so beautifully. Truly a car that has been cherished. Grab your chance, you will not find them like this anymore!

Car comes with a NL license plate, APK is taken over from the Belgians. So it still runs until April 9, 2025.
